Turfgrass Growers Association Summer Show and Networking Event 2024

Tuesday 4th & Wednesday 5th June 2024

The Turfgrass Growers Association (TGA) recently hosted its annual Summer Show and Networking Event, uniting members from the Lawn Solutions Australia (LSA) and TGA for two days of informative presentations, networking, and industry exhibitions. Kindly hosted by Sudbrook Moor Golf Club and Tillers Turf, the event was a notable success, showcasing the collaborative spirit within the turfgrass industry.

Day 1: Tuesday 4th June – LSA & TGA Grower Presentations and Networking Event

The first day began with members of LSA and TGA gathering at Sudbrook Moor Golf Club for a series of reciprocal presentations. Richard Owens, Chair of the Turfgrass Growers Association, delivered a compelling presentation on the history and standards of the TGA. He emphasised how adherence to these standards has significantly improved the quality of turfgrass across the country. Richard also highlighted the numerous benefits of TGA membership, including networking opportunities, member events, and robust industry representation.

Richard provided an in-depth overview of common grasses in the UK, such as Agrostis (Bent Grass), Festuca (Fescue), Lolium Perenne (Perennial Ryegrass), Poa Pratensis (Smooth-stalked Meadow Grass), and Festuca Arundinacea (Tall Fescue). He also addressed common challenges faced by UK growers, including pests like Chafer Grubs and Leather Jackets, as well as environmental and economic threats like weather variability, production costs, and water scarcity.

In his role as Technical Manager for Tillers Turf, Richard offered a comprehensive overview of Tillers Turf’s growth and product innovations during his decade-long tenure. He highlighted their specialist turf products and continuous development efforts, showcasing the company’s commitment to quality and innovation.

Day 2: Wednesday 5th June – TGA & LSA Members and Invited Guests

The second day extended the event to the wider TGA membership and invited guests, with over 175 attendees participating throughout the day. Guests enjoyed an insightful tour of Tillers Turf, where they observed the operations and practices that have contributed to the company’s success.

The day concluded with a delightful evening dinner at the Double Tree Hilton in Lincoln, attended by 120 guests. This provided an excellent opportunity for further networking and reflection on the event’s activities.

Overall, the two-day event was a tremendous success, fostering engagement and collaboration among TGA members. The event underscored the value of TGA membership, demonstrating that even commercial rivals can unite for the industry’s betterment.
